When I booked a quick getaway with my wife, I expected a typical all-inclusive. What I found was a stylish, food-forward resort that rewrote my expectations entirely.
My wife and I needed a quick escape, and I wanted to experience Mondrian Cancun (previously named - Hyatt Vivid Grand Island) All Inclusive firsthand. As a travel advisor, I know there's a difference between reading about a resort and actually walking its grounds, tasting the food, and understanding how a property feels in real life. I was genuinely curious whether the elevated, adults-only concept would deliver.
If I had to pick one thing that sets this resort apart, it's the two-sided experience. The property sits between Nichupté Lagoon and the Caribbean, which creates something unexpected. Instead of the typical beachfront all-inclusive setup, you get these huge lagoon views, a modern high-rise atmosphere, and gorgeous sunset scenery. Then, when you want the white-sand Caribbean beach experience, you head to the resort's private Beach Club. It feels much more like a stylish lifestyle hotel than a traditional all-inclusive. Think contemporary design, rooftop spaces, curated music, creative dining, and a more social, grown-up atmosphere.
The Food That Actually Surprised Me

The food was honestly one of the things that stood out most. There was a lot more variety than you might expect from an all-inclusive, with options ranging from Mexican and Italian to French, Japanese, Mediterranean, and fresh ceviche. The à-la-carte restaurants gave it an elevated feel, while the buffet and casual spots made it easy to grab something without making a whole event out of every meal. What I especially liked is that you weren't stuck eating the same resort food every day.
The biggest surprise? The resort itself isn't directly on the beach. At first, I thought that might be a downside, but I ended up really appreciating the setup. When you want a beach day, you take complimentary transportation to the Beach Club, where you get beautiful sand, ocean views, a pool, and a relaxed atmosphere. The food at the beach club was a highlight for me. You're not just going there for the beach and then having to leave for lunch. You can settle in for the entire day and enjoy fresh shareable dishes, and tropical drinks right by the water.
The Little Travel Trick I Discovered

Here's something I'd tell my clients: you don't necessarily have to take the shuttle just for the beach. You can use the ride as an easy way to get out and explore the area. Instead of staying at the beach club all day, you can hop on, get off and explore, grab a coffee or check out some of Cancún, and then make your way back on the free shuttle. That actually made the location feel more flexible than I originally expected. You can have a resort day, a beach-club day, or use the transportation as an opportunity to see more of the destination.
Don't underestimate how nice it is to stay at a smaller, easy-to-navigate resort either. Everything feels close and manageable, so you're not spending half your vacation walking from one end of the property to the other. You can effortlessly go from the pool to grab something to eat, head back to your room, catch some entertainment, and still feel like you've actually had time to relax.
Who This Resort Is Perfect For

If you're someone who loves genuinely delicious food, a modern atmosphere, adults-only vibes, and having options, I think you'll really enjoy this property. I'd recommend it for couples, girlfriends' trips, and travelers who want something fun and stylish rather than a super traditional all-inclusive experience. But I'd be honest with my clients: if your dream vacation is walking out of your room and within a few steps being directly on the beach, this probably isn't the resort for you.
The biggest lesson from this trip is that a resort doesn't have to check every traditional all-inclusive box to be a great fit. Matching the resort to the client matters more than simply looking at a checklist of amenities. A client who needs a massive beachfront resort might not love this one, but another client could absolutely love it because it's smaller, easier to navigate, and gives them the flexibility to explore. That's something I can take into every client conversation now: don't just sell the features, sell the experience and make sure it matches how that particular person actually likes to vacation.
