From watching both the sunrise and sunset to the kind of service I still remember years later, Sandals South Coast gave me a very different experience of Jamaica — and it's a resort I can't wait to return to.
My husband and I had been to Jamaica before, but for this trip we wanted to experience a different part of the island. We chose Sandals South Coast for a seven-night stay, tucked away in Whitehouse on Jamaica's south coast.
One of the things I love about Sandals is that the experience starts before you even get to the resort. After landing in Montego Bay, we checked in at the Sandals lounge at the airport before taking our included transfer to South Coast.
And once we got there, this resort really stuck with me.
Sunrise to Sunset
One of my favourite memories of Sandals South Coast is being able to experience both the sunrise and the sunset from the resort.
There's something pretty special about starting your day watching the sun come up and then ending it watching the sun disappear again. It's a small thing, but it's one of those memories that has stayed with me.
I also really enjoyed the dining. There were plenty of à la carte options, which is something I appreciate at an all-inclusive. We discovered an à la carte breakfast that we loved so much that we went back every morning.
Those are often the things I remember most about a resort — not necessarily the big flashy features, but the little routines you fall into while you're there.
The Kind of Service I Remember
One night at dinner, I wasn't feeling great. I think it was probably a combination of too much sun and maybe one too many tropical drinks that day.
Before I really had to ask for anything, a staff member noticed that I wasn't myself. They asked what I thought I could eat, had something different made for me and then checked on me afterward to make sure I was okay.
I've never forgotten that.
To me, great service isn't just someone bringing you another drink before yours is empty. It's noticing when someone needs something and genuinely taking care of them. That experience is a big part of why South Coast has stayed in my mind all these years later.
There's another Sandals detail my husband particularly appreciates: gratuities are included, with the exceptions Sandals allows, such as spa services and butler service. You aren't constantly thinking about carrying cash around the pool or having soggy bills in your pocket. You can just relax.
Getting Out and Seeing More of Jamaica
As much as I love a beautiful resort, I also like getting out and seeing some of the destination.
From South Coast, we took a trip to Negril and visited Rick's Café. We had something to eat, watched the famous cliff divers and took in the whole atmosphere. If you're adventurous enough to jump yourself, more power to you — I was perfectly happy watching!
We also had the opportunity to visit Sandals Negril, which gave us another look at a completely different part of Jamaica and another Sandals resort.
That's something I encourage my clients to consider. An all-inclusive vacation doesn't have to mean spending seven days without leaving the property. Sometimes getting out for a day is what gives you some of your best memories of the destination.
And That Overwater Wedding Chapel...
This resort sits just outside Negril, offering a quiet, secluded feeling that's perfect for couples seeking luxury combined with true Jamaican culture. If you're looking for a relaxed beach vacation with your significant other, where you can kick back and enjoy pristine beach and resort amenities, this is a great solid choice. The spa is fantastic, and the beach itself was beautifully stunning.
Who Would I Send to Sandals South Coast
Having experienced this myself makes it easy for me to match the right clients with this destination. I understand now who will thrive here and why. I can't wait to return to Sandals South Coast once it reopens with all that Sandals 2.0 has to offer. For those couples seeking that perfect blend of service, scenery, and serenity, I would not hesitate to recommend this experience.
One feature that is hard to miss at Sandals South Coast is the overwater wedding chapel.
Sitting right over the Caribbean with panoramic water views and a glass aisle, it is a beautiful setting for a wedding — and having seen it in person, I can understand why couples fall in love with it.
I think South Coast could be a particularly beautiful choice for an adults-only destination wedding, an elopement or a celebration where everyone attending is 18+. For couples planning a wedding with children or families with younger guests, I would look at other options, since Sandals is an adults-only resort.
For the right group, though, being able to have the wedding and honeymoon experience together in this secluded part of Jamaica could be pretty special.
Who Would I Send to Sandals South Coast?
South Coast is a resort I'd look at for couples who really want to slow down.
It's away from Jamaica's busier tourist areas and has a more secluded feeling. If your idea of a great vacation is a beautiful beach, good food, time together and not feeling like you need to go somewhere every day, this could be a really good fit.
On the other hand, if being close to nightlife, shopping and lots of activity outside the resort is important to you, I'd probably look at a different area of Jamaica. That's why experiencing these resorts myself matters so much when I'm helping someone choose — there isn't one Sandals that's right for everybody.
And South Coast has another chapter coming.
Following Hurricane Melissa in 2025, Sandals South Coast remained closed and Sandals decided to undertake a much larger reimagining of the resort as part of its Sandals 2.0 plans. It is currently scheduled to reopen November 18, 2026.
I loved South Coast before all of these changes. Now I really can't wait to get back there, see what's new and find out whether it still feels like the resort I remember.
