If you save Athens for the end, after all those lush landscapes in Montenegro and Italy, it can feel like an anticlimax. The order matters more than people realize.
I also learned valuable lessons about shore excursions. Some ports have long transfers, while others let you hop off and explore immediately. And some organized tours waste precious time at artisan shops that eat into your day. In Sorrento, we spent 20 minutes at a furniture store when we could have been exploring and shopping for souvenirs we might actually bring home.
